FAQs

Domestic flooring refers to the floor covers of any residential property, such as your home.

Here are some factors to consider when selecting the right flooring:

  • Lifestyle:

Consider your lifestyle and the level of foot traffic in the area where the flooring will be installed. For high-traffic areas such as corridors, durable options like LVT or laminate may be suitable. For low-traffic areas like bedrooms, carpet would be a better option.

  • Room Function:

Different rooms have different requirements. For example, moisture-resistant flooring like vinyl or LVT may be more suitable for bathrooms or kitchens, while cozy carpeting might be ideal for bedrooms. Consider the specific needs of each room.

  • Budget:

Determine your budget for flooring installation, including both the material and installation costs. Different flooring materials vary in price, so consider options that fit within your budget while meeting your desired quality and aesthetic goals.

By considering these factors, you can make a more informed choice when selecting the right flooring for your home.

The best flooring for kitchens is durable, moisture-resistant, and easy to clean.

In our opinion, LVT is the best option as it is water-resistant and has a protective layer that is stain and scuff resistant. Laminate flooring is also popular, but requires extra care to prevent water damage as it is not water-resistant.

Avoid carpet or materials that can move or deteriorate due to exposure to moisture.

Here are some flooring options that are commonly recommended for households with kids or pets:

  • Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT):

It is highly durable, water-resistant, and easy to clean. LVT provides the warmth and visual appeal of hardwood without the concerns of scratches or spills.

  • Carpet with Stain Resistance:

If you prefer the softness and warmth of carpeting, look for options with stain-resistant properties. There are carpets available that are treated to resist stains, making them easier to clean and maintain in households with kids or pets.

Here are specific guidelines for maintaining and caring for each type of flooring:

Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT):

  • Regularly sweep or vacuum with a soft-bristle attachment to remove loose dirt and dust.
  • Use a damp mop with a mild cleaner.
  • Avoid using abrasive scrub brushes or harsh chemicals that can damage the surface.
  • Wipe up spills promptly to prevent staining.
  • Use felt pads under furniture legs to prevent scratches.

Carpet Flooring:

  • Vacuum regularly, at least once a week, and more frequently in high-traffic areas.
  • Treat stains promptly using carpet stain removers or a mixture of water and mild detergent.
  • Use a professional carpet cleaner for deep cleaning every 12 to 18 months.
  • Avoid excessive moisture, as it can lead to mold or mildew growth in the carpet.
  • Place doormats at entryways to trap dirt and prevent it from spreading throughout the carpeted areas.

Vinyl Flooring:

  • Sweep, vacuum, or use a damp mop with a mild cleaner to remove dirt and stains regularly.
  • Avoid using abrasive scrub brushes or harsh chemicals that can damage the surface.
  • Wipe up spills promptly to prevent moisture damage.
  • Use felt pads under furniture legs to prevent scratches.

Laminate Flooring:

  • Regularly sweep or vacuum with a soft-bristle attachment to remove dirt and debris.
  • Use a damp mop or laminate floor cleaner.
  • Immediately wipe up spills to prevent staining or water damage.
  • Avoid using excessive water or harsh cleaning agents, as they can damage the laminate surface.
